Case Study 4 – Importing a Triumph Scrambler from Sweden

This was the fastest import we have ever completed!

In the summer of 2024, we received a request from a customer who was in Scandinavia and wanted to bring his 2019 Triumph Scrambler to Portugal. Since he was already residing in Portugal, a belastingvrij import was not an option.

Low ISV Makes Tax-Paid Import More Efficient

Since motorbikes incur very low ISV taxes in Portugal, we recommended importing the bike with taxes. The minimal tax payment makes the more complex tax-free route unnecessary, especially for someone already living in Portugal, where tax-free import wouldn’t apply.

Need for Speed – The Extra-Fast Option

The customer needed to register the motorbike quickly because his Swedish registration was set to expire within a few weeks. In such cases, we offer an “extra-fast” option.

This service is available for straightforward imports where all paperwork is perfectly in order. It involves us expediting all processes, even working overtime if necessary, and proactively coordinating with authorities to speed things up.

While complications can still arise if there are issues with the paperwork, in this instance, everything proceeded smoothly.

We did the work before the bike arrived in Portugal

While we managed the paperwork, the customer decided to embark on a tour from Scandinavia through the Alps and the Pyrenees, gradually making his way to Portugal over the course of one to two weeks.

Since the motorbike did not require an inspectie, we were able to email him his Portuguese license plate number before he even arrived home.

The customer was delighted and even sent us several photos of his motorbike against the backdrop of mountain landscapes.

• Importing motorbikes with ISV taxes can be more cost-effective than opting for the tax-free route due to the low tax rates.
• If all documentation is in order, our extra-fast option can secure Portuguese plates in a very short timeframe.
