Can’t Get Your COC for Free?
If your car manufacturer charges for a Certificate of Conformity (COC), it often costs €200 or more. If this applies to you, we may have a better option: a COC substitute created by an engineer. It serves the same purpose as an official COC and is both cost-effective and fast—typically arranged in less than a day, allowing us to proceed with your import immediately.
Avoid Third-Party COCs
Be cautious about buying a COC from third-party providers (outside the official manufacturer). These documents are often not accepted by Portuguese authorities. Unfortunately, if a third-party COC is rejected, you may not be able to recover the money spent. Some of our customers have experienced this firsthand, so we strongly recommend avoiding such purchases.
Conditions for a COC Substitute
A COC substitute is likely possible if:
- Your car is from Europe and was built after 1997.
- Your car has European Homologation.
- The vehicle has not been altered and matches its original specifications on paper.
When to Choose a COC Substitute
- If obtaining an official COC costs more than €150.
- If your car meets the conditions listed above.
- If you need the document quickly—COC substitutes are usually ready within a day.
Guarantee
In rare instances, Portuguese authorities may not accept the COC substitute. If this happens, you won’t be charged for it, and you’ll need to order an official COC directly from the manufacturer.
