The DAV (Declaração Aduaneira de Veículos) is the customs declaration document for cars and other vehicles, detailing all the technical specifications registered during the customs process. This includes information like weight, color, vehicle type, CO2 emissions, and your personal details.
It also provides a breakdown of the taxes paid for your import and, most importantly, includes your new license plate number.
Your Car Has Been Approved
Receiving the DAV means your car has been approved by customs. You can then get plates made, insure your car, and start driving. The date on the DAV is also the start date for paying taxes. While the car registration with the tax office hasn’t happened yet, they will use this date for registration purposes.
Use the DAV as a Temporary License Registration
While we wait for your IMT registration to be completed, you may already drive your car with Portuguese plates. You will then carry the DAV as your temporary license registration document until you receive the DUA.
After obtaining the DAV, the car must be registered with IMT and the conservatory.
We’ll Arrange Your DAV for You
We can handle obtaining the DAV for you, as well as the registration with IMT and the conservatory.
