Homologation is the official approval of your car by Portuguese authorities, which means that, based on the available documentation, your car is deemed fit to drive on Portuguese roads.
Another word for homologation is ‘type approval’.
What is Needed for this type approval?
European vehicles usually already have some sort of European Homologation. The type approval number is often found as ‘K’ on your European car registration document.
What if There is No Homologation Number
This approval is typically based on the COC document. For older vehicles and those from outside Europe, a more detailed individual approval process is required, as these don’t typically have a COC document. In this case a special data sheet from the manufacturer is needed. And with older vehicles a CO2 test may be required.
Where do You Get Your Homologation Document?
You can request your ‘homologation consultation’ through IMT.
