IMT (Instituto da Mobilidade e dos Transportes)
In Portugal, IMT stands for two things. One is the property tax (Imposto Municipal sobre as Transmissões Onerosas de Imóveis), but what we’re focused on is the Institute of Mobility and Transport.
This is where you’ll register your car during the import process.
IMT also provides a range of other services, including:
- Revalidating a driving licence
- Replacing a driving licence
- Exchanging a foreign driving licence for a Portuguese one
- Requesting a TVDE (individual and remunerated passenger transport in unmarked vehicles via electronic platforms) driver certificate
- Applying for a parking card for persons with disabilities
You can schedule document deliveries for exchanging a foreign license at IMT. They also cater to collective entities like service providers, driving schools, and agencies.
